Allegheny Health Network is proud to offer a comprehensive program dedicated to providing the highest quality care for patients with esophageal and gastric cancer.
Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is proud to offer a comprehensive program dedicated to providing the highest quality care for patients with esophageal and gastric cancer. Our Esophageal and Gastric Center of Excellence offers a unique approach that combines advanced technology, innovative treatments, and a patient-centered philosophy.
With physicians, surgeons, oncologists, and researchers who have devoted their careers to diagnosing and treating esophageal cancer, and our research coordinators who focus all their time and effort on esophageal cancer, we have the expertise and experience to find an effective treatment solution for your patients.
Our doctors use the latest techniques and technology to provide a wide range of comprehensive treatment options, including minimally invasive surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.
And through a partnership with the AHN Esophageal Institute, your patients have access to a robust clinical trials program that is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the country. “We are constantly striving to improve our understanding and treatment of esophageal and gastric cancer,” says Kirsten Newhams, MD, MPH, a board-certified surgeon with AHN specializing in minimally invasive esophageal and gastric surgery. “And we are committed to bringing the latest and most effective treatments to our patients.”
Our experienced team works together and across multiple disciplines to determine the strongest, most effective treatment plan for your patients. “We believe that a multidisciplinary approach is essential for optimal outcomes in esophageal and gastric cancer,” says Dr. Newhams. “By bringing together experts from different disciplines, we can ensure that each patient receives the most comprehensive and coordinated care possible.”
Our tumor board, which includes physicians, surgeons, medical oncologists, radiologists, and researchers, meets weekly to review the most complex cases. The board discusses the patient’sdiagnosis, pathology, imaging results, and history, as well as the nuances of various treatment options, all while considering the patient’s individual needs and preferences.
The board then makes recommendations for the best course of action, ensuring that each patient receives a personalized and evidence-based treatment plan. This collaborative approach helps each patient receive the most comprehensive and informed care possible.
The AHN Esophageal and Gastric Cancer Center of Excellence provides your patients with the highest quality care, advanced treatment options, and a supportive environment. Our program’s commitment to research, innovation, and patient-centered care ensures that your patients receive the best possible outcomes.
